SEBI's New Rules: Uniform Transaction Charges to Impact Brokers' Profits

SEBI has mandated MIIs to end slab-wise transaction charges and introduce a uniform fee structure starting October 1, 2024. This change aims to enhance transparency and reduce costs for investors but will significantly impact brokers' revenue. Currently, brokers profit by charging clients the highest slab rate and paying exchanges a lower rate. With the new rules, brokers may raise broking charges, affecting trading volumes and market-making activities.
