Simplified GST Structure: A New Era for India

The Group of Ministers (GoM) has approved a simplified GST structure in India, moving from the current 12% and 28% rates to a dual system of 5% and 18%. Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister highlighted this change, which aims to ease tax burdens for the common man, farmers, and small businesses. However, concerns over potential revenue losses from states have been raised, prompting demands for compensation from the Centre. This proposal will be discussed in an upcoming GST Council meeting, marking a key step towards the "next-generation GST" reforms announced by Prime Minister Modi.
