SpiceJet revealed it hasn’t paid Rs 427 crore in dues since 2020, including Rs 219.8 crore in TDS, Rs 71.33 crore in GST, and Rs 135.47 crore towards provident fund (PF). The airline is financially strained, with 36 of its 58 aircraft grounded due to unpaid dues to lessors and maintenance issues. To address its liabilities, SpiceJet plans to raise Rs 3,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). The airline also owes Rs 118.9 crore in salaries and Rs 290 crore to airports. Legal experts warn of penalties and possible imprisonment for non-payment.
