The Supreme Court of India has recently taken notice of the tragic death of 32-year-old actor-model Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The case has ignited significant public interest and concern, particularly regarding the allegations of dowry harassment against her in-laws. Twisha married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025, and her death on May 12, just five months later, has raised many questions.

The court's decision to intervene stems from numerous complaints about procedural irregularities in the investigation. Twisha's family has accused her in-laws, including Samarth and his mother, retired district judge Giribala Singh, of subjecting her to mental and physical abuse, leading to her death. In response to the serious allegations, the Supreme Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the case, ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation.

As the case unfolds, it has revealed troubling aspects of the initial investigation, including delays in filing the FIR and inconsistencies in the autopsy report. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has also ordered a second post-mortem by a specialized team from AIIMS Delhi, citing concerns about the first autopsy's findings. This move reflects the urgency and importance of restoring public confidence in the investigative process.

Twisha’s husband, Samarth, who initially went into hiding after the incident, has since surrendered to the police and is currently in custody. Investigators are probing various aspects of the case, including WhatsApp chats and the circumstances leading to Twisha’s death. Despite claims from Samarth's family that her death was a suicide due to personal issues, Twisha’s relatives firmly believe that she was a victim of dowry harassment.

The Supreme Court has urged the media to exercise restraint and avoid sensationalizing the case, emphasizing the importance of allowing the investigation to proceed without external pressures. The court's remarks highlight the need for a fair judicial process, as public narratives can significantly influence ongoing investigations.

This case has opened a broader discussion on the issues of dowry harassment and women's safety in India. It underscores the importance of addressing such societal issues transparently and effectively to ensure justice for victims. As the CBI steps in to take charge, many are hopeful that the truth will emerge, bringing closure to Twisha's family and justice for her untimely demise.
