Swiggy has been fined ₹35,000 after a Hyderabad man, Emmadi Suresh Babu, reported that the food delivery platform inflated delivery distances to overcharge customers.
Babu, a Swiggy One member entitled to free deliveries within a certain range, found that his food order distance was increased from 9.7 km to 14 km, leading to an extra ₹103 charge. He filed a complaint in Telangana’s District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, providing evidence like Google Maps screenshots. Swiggy, absent from the hearing, was ordered to repay ₹350.48 plus interest and refund the delivery charge.
