Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Heavy Rains and Cyclone Update

24 Oct, 2025

Tamil Nadu is currently facing intense rainfall due to a cyclonic circulation emanating from the South Bay of Bengal. This weather pattern has prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the districts of Thiruvallur and Ranipet. Additionally, an orange alert has been declared for several other districts, including Chennai, Vellore, Salem, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri.

According to the latest forecast from the IMD, the sky is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. As residents prepare for the weather, it is important to stay updated on the changing conditions.

The IMD has warned that squally weather is likely to prevail along the North Tamil Nadu coast, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh coast, with wind speeds reaching 45 to 55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph. Similar weather patterns are expected to continue through Thursday, emphasizing the need for caution.

Fishermen are specifically advised against venturing into the sea for the next couple of days due to the dangerous conditions expected along the coasts. This precautionary measure is crucial to ensure their safety amid rough seas and high winds.

Residents in the affected districts should remain vigilant and adhere to the guidelines issued by local authorities. It is also advisable to keep an eye on weather updates from the IMD to stay informed about any changes in the forecast or alerts.

In conclusion, while the rains may bring relief from the heat, safety should be the top priority for everyone in Tamil Nadu. Preparing ahead of time and following official advice can help mitigate risks associated with severe weather.
