Tech Giants Apply for Indian Manufacturing: Asus, HP, Dell, and Foxconn Among 38 Applicants for Laptop and PC Production Under PLI Scheme

Under India's updated Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware, 38 companies including Asus, Dell, HP, and Foxconn have applied to manufacture laptops, PCs, and servers within the country. Notably, Apple has opted out of the scheme. This move follows the Indian government's postponement of import license requirements for laptops, tablets, and PCs until October 31, easing concerns for major electronics manufacturers.

The revised PLI scheme is expected to stimulate about ₹3.35 lakh crore in extra production over six years, with an estimated ₹4,000 crore investment during this period. The scheme could generate approximately 75,000 direct jobs. While Dell was the sole participant in the initial scheme, more companies are expected to join due to improved incentives.
