Tomato Prices Surge Beyond Rs 80 per kg

Tomato prices in India have skyrocketed to over Rs 80 per kilogram due to supply disruptions caused by monsoon rains and the seasonal lean period. This sharp increase has prompted the government to step in. To alleviate the burden on consumers, the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) are selling tomatoes at subsidized rates in several regions. Initially, prices were cut from Rs 90 to Rs 80 per kg in cities like Delhi and Patna. Further reductions are planned, with prices expected to drop to Rs 50 per kg starting August 15
