RBI Confirms ₹2,000 Notes Still Valid Currency
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra confirmed that ₹2,000 notes, though no longer circulated, are still valid currency. During a Parliamentary meeting, MPs raised concerns about counterfeit ₹500 notes, with over 1.12 lakh seized. The RBI is actively addressing this issue. As of July 1, ₹2,000 notes worth ₹6,099 crore remain in circulation, despite their withdrawal announcement last year. Introduced in November 2016, these notes will be phased out, but the public can still exchange them at designated RBI offices or via India Post.
