Tragic Death of Rapido Rider in East Delhi Accident
A tragic accident in East Delhi has resulted in the death of Jubair Ali, a 26-year-old bike taxi rider working for Rapido. The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon in Geeta Colony when Jubair was run over by a water tanker belonging to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Despite wearing a helmet, he suffered fatal injuries when he lost balance and fell onto the road. The tanker, coming from the opposite direction, struck him.
According to police reports, a PCR call was received around 3:30 PM reporting the accident near the SDM office. Upon arrival, they found Jubair under the rear tyre of the loaded tanker. Eyewitnesses were notably absent, which raises concerns about accountability in such incidents.
The police confirmed that the tanker involved in this tragic event is an authorized vehicle of the DJB. Alarmingly, the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving Jubair without assistance. The authorities seized both the tanker and Jubair’s motorcycle for further investigation.
Investigators indicated that CCTV footage from the area is being scrutinized to identify the driver who abandoned the scene. This incident underscores the pressing issue of road safety for bike riders in urban India, highlighting the risks they face amidst increasing traffic volumes and reckless driving.
After conducting inspections with forensic teams, Jubair’s body was sent to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination. An FIR is being registered, and police are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation into this tragic loss of life.
This incident is not just a statistic; it represents the ongoing struggle for road safety among riders in major cities. As the number of bike taxis rises, so does the need for stricter regulations and enhanced safety measures to protect these vulnerable road users.
