01 Dec, 2025

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to enhance the facilities at the Digambar Jain Temple located in the Indranagar area of Lucknow. An allocation of Rs 1 crore has been approved to improve amenities and strengthen the presence of Jain heritage in the state capital. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote religious tourism and create a better experience for the thousands of devotees who visit the temple each year.

According to officials, the project has been cleared under the Chief Minister’s Tourism Development Scheme. This funding will help revamp the area surrounding the temple, which has historical significance, including an 800-year-old handwritten Jain manuscript housed within its premises. Enhancements to this sacred site will include wider roads, improved lighting, sanitation facilities, and clear signage to guide visitors. Additionally, seating areas and parking arrangements are planned to accommodate the growing number of tourists.

The government aims to ensure that this project not only enhances the temple’s aesthetics but also supports local employment and fosters small businesses in the vicinity. By improving infrastructure, the authorities hope to transform the Digambar Jain Temple into a significant hub for religious tourism, drawing visitors from across the country and beyond.

Officials highlighted that the temple in Ashiyana, which features a nearly thousand-year-old idol of Lord Mahavir, is another site of interest. Together, these temples can form an integral part of the Jain tourism circuit in Uttar Pradesh, showcasing the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Jain community.

As the project unfolds, it is expected to bring economic benefits to the local community, creating jobs in various sectors such as hospitality and retail. This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting religious and cultural tourism in the state, making it an attractive destination for both locals and tourists alike.
