WagonR Price Cuts: Affordable Festive Ride
Maruti Suzuki WagonR, India's top-selling car, has recently slashed its prices ahead of the festive season, making it more accessible for family buyers. This move comes as a surprise yet a welcome change for many, especially considering the rising popularity of SUVs. The WagonR has managed to retain its status as the best-selling car for the fourth consecutive year, selling nearly 1,98,451 units in FY25.
The price cuts range from ₹56,100 to ₹79,600 across various variants, particularly benefiting entry-level options like the LXI petrol and CNG models. The LXI petrol manual now retails at ₹4,98,900, a significant drop from ₹5,78,500, making it a compelling choice for first-time buyers or those on tight budgets. Similarly, the VXI manual has been reduced from ₹6,23,500 to ₹5,51,900, offering an attractive deal for those seeking a well-equipped mid-variant.
Other variants also saw notable reductions. For example, the higher engine variant, the ZXI, is now priced at ₹5,95,900, while the ZXI Plus comes down to ₹6,38,900. These adjustments aim to make the WagonR appealing to buyers who desire additional features without venturing too far into higher-priced segments. The automated variants have also benefited, with the VXI AMT petrol now costing ₹5,96,900, down from ₹6,73,500.
The CNG variants have not been left behind either, with the LXI CNG seeing a cut of ₹79,600, making it more attractive for urban dwellers and fleet operators. The goal here is clear: to maintain dominance in the under-₹6 lakh market segment, which is highly price-sensitive.
One of the key reasons for WagonR's ongoing popularity is its tall-boy design, which offers easy ingress and egress, along with a spacious cabin. The boot capacity of 341 litres further sets it apart from other hatchbacks in the segment. The engine options include a reliable 1.0-litre petrol engine and a robust 1.2-litre variant, both known for their fuel efficiency, with the CNG model offering impressive economy figures.
Despite being a budget hatchback, the WagonR does not compromise on essential features. Higher trims come equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted controls, rear parking sensors, and remote keyless entry. Safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD are standard across the range, meeting modern safety expectations. The AMT variants add to the convenience, now more competitively priced after the GST changes.
Overall, Maruti Suzuki's strategic price cuts for the WagonR not only cater to the festive buying season but also reinforce its position in the competitive Indian automotive market.
