Why hundreds of Samsung workers are protesting in India

Around 1,500 Samsung Electronics workers in Chennai, India, have been on strike for 11 days, demanding better wages and recognition of their new union, the Samsung India Labour Welfare Union.

The workers, who earn about ₹25,000 ($298) monthly, seek a 50% pay raise over three years. The strike has disrupted production at Samsung's Chennai plant, which contributes $4 billion to the company's annual revenue in India. Police detained over 100 workers during the protest, and negotiations are ongoing to resolve the issues.
