Gujarat on Red Alert: Heavy Rains Forecasted
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently issued a red alert for Gujarat, anticipating extremely heavy rainfall in the region. This weather warning highlights the severity of the situation, as various states including Rajasthan and Odisha are also grappling with significant downpours that are disrupting daily life.
According to the IMD's bulletin, Gujarat is likely to experience intense showers from September 5 to 6, particularly in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, where heavy to very heavy rain is expected from September 6 to 7. The impact of these rains is already being felt across the country, with Rajasthan reporting heavy rainfall in several areas, particularly in Dausa district, which recorded 104 mm in just 24 hours.
In Odisha, the relentless rains have resulted in waterlogging in many districts, affecting the lives of residents. Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Bhubaneswar are among the most impacted areas, with reports of water entering hospitals and residential areas. The situation has become dire, with officials stating that normal life has been severely disrupted.
Meanwhile, the national capital, Delhi, along with Gurugram and Noida, which have faced continuous rainfall, might see some respite. The IMD has predicted no significant rainfall for Delhi but has issued a yellow alert for Gurugram and Faridabad, indicating light rain in those areas. This news may bring some relief to residents who have been dealing with the aftermath of incessant showers.
As the rain continues, the water levels in rivers like the Yamuna have been rising. On Friday morning, the water level at Delhi’s Old Railway Bridge stood at 207.33 metres. While this level is lower than the season’s peak, which was 207.48 metres, officials are closely monitoring the situation. They expect the water levels to recede, but the potential for flooding in low-lying areas remains a concern.
In conclusion, with the IMD’s warnings in place, it is crucial for citizens in affected regions to stay informed and prepared for the challenges that come with heavy rainfall. The weather can change rapidly, and being proactive can help mitigate its impact on daily life.
