Telangana Bans Almont-Kid Syrup for Safety

15 Jan, 2026

In a significant move to safeguard public health, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration has banned the sale and use of Almont-Kid Syrup. This syrup, widely used for treating allergies, hay fever, and asthma in children, was found to be adulterated with ethylene glycol, a highly toxic substance. This alarming discovery prompted the administration to issue an urgent advisory.

According to the advisory, the alert was triggered by a report from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation in Kolkata. The report indicated that Almont-Kid Syrup, which contains levocetirizine dihydrochloride and montelukast sodium, was contaminated. The Drugs Control Administration strongly advises the public to stop using the syrup immediately if they possess it and to report such cases to the nearest Drugs Control Authority without delay.

To ensure swift action, all Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors across Telangana have been instructed to inform retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and hospitals about the ban. They are required to freeze any existing stocks of the affected batch and ensure that it is not dispensed or sold under any circumstances. This initiative reflects the state's commitment to ensuring that unsafe products do not reach consumers.

The public is encouraged to exercise caution and refrain from using the product to avoid the severe health risks associated with ethylene glycol toxicity. The Drugs Control Administration has taken enforcement measures and is actively monitoring the situation to prevent further risks to public health.

The batch of the affected Almont-Kid Syrup is identified as Batch No. AL-24002, manufactured by Tridus Remedies, Bihar. As parents and guardians, it is crucial to stay informed about such health advisories to protect children from potential harm. The health and safety of children should always be a priority, and quick action can prevent tragic outcomes.

The advisory also provides a toll-free number for the public to report any possession of the syrup, ensuring a comprehensive approach to tackling this health hazard. In light of this incident, it is essential for the community to remain vigilant and proactive about the medications they use for their children.
